MITT ROMNEY
Willard
Mitt Romney, born in 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, has been preparing for the job
of President of the United States since he was a young man. Influenced
by his father, George Romney–chairman and CEO of American Motors, 43rd Governor
of Michigan, and United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development– Mitt
excelled in his studies, earning a degree from Harvard Law School as well as a
Harvard M.B.A.
He gained valuable on-the-job expertise at a
management-consulting firm, and later founded Bain & Company, a leader in
business consulting. Romney put his skills to work for the United States in
2002, when called to salvage the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee from a morass
of financial and ethical problems. Under his direction, the Olympic Games
were turned from potential disaster into shining success.
His Olympic achievement led him into
politics. In 2003, he was elected as the Republican Governor of
Massachusetts, a state where Democrats have dominated since the 1930s. He
acknowledges that his effort to provide cost-effective health insurance
to Massachusetts citizens did not meet his expectations, and vows to
overturn Obamacare if elected president.
As a proven leader, Romney's goal is to reform
Washington's present system of over-taxing, over-spending, and
over-regulating. He believes his achievements in the world of business
and finance can help America prosper once again by changing the way Washington
works.
A
lifelong Mormon, Romney has been married to his wife Ann since 1969. They
have five sons, all married, and a growing number of beautiful grandchildren.
