Former Senator Known for Reform & Fiscal Conservatism

RICK SANTORUM

Former Senator Rick Santorum served in the US Senate from 1995 to 2007 after being elected to the US House of Representatives in 1990.  In 2000, Senator Santorum was elected by his peers to serve as Senate Republican Conference Chairman.  As one of the most successful government reformers in our history, Senator Santorum, along with John Boehner and Jim Nussle, was a member of the famous “Gang of Seven” who exposed the Congressional Banking and Congressional Post Office scandals.  Senator Santorum’s record of reform prompted a Washington Post reporter to write, “Santorum was a tea party kind of guy before there was a tea party.”

Senator Santorum continued his fight to maintain fiscal sanity in Washington by championing a balanced budget, reducing spending, and proposing entitlement reform as well as being an author of the 1996 Welfare Reform Act that empowered millions to enter the workforce.

Believing that every individual has value and that our most vulnerable citizens need protection, Senator Santorum wrote and championed legislation that outlawed partial birth abortions, the “Born Alive Infants Protection Act”, the “Unborn Victims of Violence Act”, and the “Combating Autism Act”.

He served eight years on the Senate Armed Services Committee to transform our military from a Cold War Force to meet today’s threats and supported US-Israel relations –authoring both the “Syria Accountability Act” and the “Iran Freedom and Support Act”.

Senator Santorum, however, is most proud of his role as a husband to his wife, Karen, and a father to his seven children.
